The Story

The Dakila Necklace features motifs inspired by two sacred animals, the python and the centipede.

Our ancestors believed that the anito (ancestral spirits) could take the form of animals. One such animal is the snake, with many cultures around the country believing they are messengers of the spirits, or that they are the ancestors themselves. The ancient Bisayans would often bring a python on their war raids for good luck and protection. The python is represented here by the diamond, like the pattern of its scales.

The centipede is another sacred animal, and it often appears as a tattoo motif of the tribes of northern Luzon. The many legs of the centipede are believed to symbolize one’s lineage and long chain of ancestors, represented here by the repeating chevron.

The Dakila Necklace reminds us of our ancient heritage – that no matter where you are in the world, let it remind you that you come from a long line of warriors and voyagers. Their strength lives on in us and continues to guide us through our life’s journey.

Materials: Paua abalone and mother-of-pearl inlay, 24 kt gold-plated brass.

Measurements: Necklace measures 41 cm with a 5 cm extender chain.

Each of our pieces is completely handcrafted with natural seashells, so any variation in size, color, or pattern is completely natural, making each piece unique.
